Princess Luna #1 by ManlyStitches Princess Luna #1 by ManlyStitches
My first Princess Luna! I have had a LOT of requests to make Luna, and I finally did for Galacon. I finished her at Galacon with my second Sweetie Belle, and so the pictures were taken right before handing her to her new owner XD! I am definitely happy with how she came out. Many thanks to :iconsiora86: for her heat gun and sparkling thingies for Luna's mane and tail! For next time, I will tweak her wings, because they look a little bit weird from some angles. The cutie marks were also slightly high on her flank, and so I will adjust those as well.
Princess Luna stands at about 15 inches tall, with machine embroidered cutie marks, eyes, and necklace. I used :iconvalleyviolet:'s mare pattern to make my own princess pattern (the same pattern for my two celestia's I have already made). Her mane, tail and regalia were patterned by me. Her hoof shoes are removable.

Don't forget, if you want to commission me for a Luna like this one, I will be opening commissions in September! Check out my journal for the full details:

I love the idea of using velcro to keep the wings upright! Much more sensible than wires! hehe, it looks really cute!
I've got a luna on my comission list, so will be making her soon. How did you find sticking the crystals on? Was it difficult to not get the glue everywhere?

Thanks! It was actually a heat gun.  The tiny rhinestones just sit on there, and u put the heat gun on top of them for about 20 seconds, and they melt onto the fabric.  I used one similar to this: www.amazon.com/Darice-2704-01-…

they are called "hotfix" crystals. if you search google for that you'll certainly find it  on amazon/ebay/...
you get them in standard and in "swarovski elements" edition. the first ones are really affordable and awesome for royal plushies as they hold greatly on the minky (you can just iron them on or use one of the applicators, they have a special glue on their backside which melts when heated).
the swarovskis look like little diamonds and have a special shape which sparkles much more than the standard ones, but they are VERY expensive.

Luna's Cm is always hard. Technically you have to have it expand entirely over the rear bend, merging along the back and all, but how's that gonna get embroidered AND cut in place perfectly? I for one say, just get it as close as possible while keeping it comfortable to work with and that'll be enough!
The wings seem really big. Strange. Well, you will work on them anyway, so I'll leave it to you (as if I could do otherwise).
Hm ... didn't Siora use real Svarovski pieces for her Luna last year? Did she have some left over? I don't know if they are sold in packages/packs/sets and if, how big/small these are.

I think the crown could be a little smaller, at least not as high.
The other part (necklace ...?) is nice however ... yes, I forgot how you called that back then, I preferred that above all else.

Yeah, if you look at the show, sometimes her CM looks like it covers the entire backside, and other parts it is clearly seperate (s3 ep 1, when luna is walking out of the royal chamber).  It's just another unanswered cartoon physics question XD.  I don't know what Svarovski is....

I think the word you are looking for is "regalia".  Or maybe "decoration"?  You can decorate a king with all the jewels and stuff.  Not sure XD

YES, regalia, that's what you said! Gotta keep that in mind this time.

Swarovski is an austrian producer of luxury cut lead glass (crystal glass).
At least that's they are known for by the masses, so when mentioning the name, people think of high-end crystal glass used for less expensive, but still elaborate jewelry.
But they also create pieces for optics for example.

They do sell small decoartive stones for e.g. home-use, I just don't know exactly how. I do know for sure that Siora did use original Swarovskis for the 2012 "LunaFest" Luna she made and was auctioned for around 400€ for charity far as I recall. Good chances she had some leftover, that's why I mentioned it in the first place.

Oh.  Are you talking about for a necklace (for luna)?  I don't know what else you would use glass for on a luna plushie....

Nah, sorry. It's still about the little gemlike stones for the mane.

Luna! :aww: Congrats on your first Luna man! You're three princesses ahead of me. :O

I particularly like that you're making the shoes removable.

thanks!  some people dont like it, and i agree it looks more clean cut if u satin stitch them on, but theres something weird about sewing shoes onto a pony...seems like they need to be able to be removed....

Yeah, that's true, but I agree with you, it's not part of the hoof! You can always offer it as an option. The reason why most of my manes are fairly flat is because I find them easier to hug that way and nothing juts out from the forehead. It's about style preference. :D But I'm still going to try the other mane styles too.

I love how you made her! If I may offer some advice, the stick things to make the wings stay together look a little out of nowhere with her. I'd recommend using magnet inside the wings so that they can stay together without being noticed. :3
Amazing job regardless!
